HPC Infrastructure Engineer

Job description

Purpose of the Role:

  • To provide a reliable and cutting-edge High Performance Computing service within McLaren Racing.
  • The High Performance Computing (HPC) Infrastructure Engineer is an important role to guarantee a high end HPC service that meets the very demanding requirements of McLaren’s computational engineering environment.
  • The main focus of the role will be in keeping a high level of reliability and availability of the very diverse components of the McLaren HPC estate, gaining an in-depth knowledge of the HPC systems including: clusters, large SMP systems, networking, storage and software.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Day to day operational support of the McLaren Racing HPC estate
  • Manage and resolve any hardware or software issues that arise with our technical partners
  • Provide Linux administrative skills and support the integration of the HPC estate within the company’s IT infrastructure
  • Assist in hardware and software upgrade programmes
  • Manage and maintain backup and storage systems
  • Take ownership and maintain user requests and issues
  • Keep abreast of latest HPC and industry developments

Job requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • A degree or equivalent in Computational Science or related subject
  • Excellent knowledge of Linux, shell scripting and python
  • Knowledge of HPC Hardware including clusters, storage, archiving and connectivity
  • Knowledge of and experience with network and SAN infrastructures would be an advantage
  • Knowledge of and experience with virtualization would be an advantage
  • Good understanding of techniques for system and application performance monitoring, analysis and tuning would be an advantage

  • The ability to work in a team is equally as important as the ability to work independently on specific tasks
