Lead, Sustainability Management Systems - Reporting & Insights

Purpose of role

To ensure that McLaren Racing has appropriate sustainability management systems in place, to enable it to effectively manage its economic, environmental and social impacts, make data-led decisions in delivering its sustainability programme, effectively communicate its sustainability performance and progress in line with evolving best practice and stakeholder expectations.

Key accountabilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of appropriate environmental management and sustainable events management systems, across all the McLaren Racing Series that enable McLaren Racing to appropriately manage its impacts and achieve the most relevant external certifications / accreditations to support its sustainability goals.
  • Lead the delivery of the annual sustainability report on time, to expected high quality standards and budget
  • Manage the delivery of all internal and external sustainability performance and progress reporting (economic, environmental and social)
  • Manage the delivery of sustainability verification processes (e.g. FIA sustainability accreditation, Carbon Trust Route to Zero, SBTi, future ISO accreditations, circular economy standards, etc)
  • Oversee research, analysis and benchmarking insights regarding sustainability commitments and performance of competitors, partners and other relevant organisations / initiatives across
  • Lead the development of real-time internal monitoring of key sustainability performance indicators and providing data-led insights to drive improvement programmes and support internal communications and engagement initiatives
  • Support the development of business / investment cases for delivery of sustainability improvements with relevant data, research, and insights in collaboration with others
  • Reports to the Director of Sustainability
  • People management and proactively support the work delivery, skills and career development of the Sustainability Analyst, Senior Circular Economy Specialist and Interns

Job requirements

Desired experience, skills & behaviours

  • Strong working knowledge and experience of Environmental Management System implementation (ISO140001 / FIA sustainability accreditation) and Sustainable Events Management system implementation (ISO20121), ideally in a sports context
  • Track record of identifying and building compelling, data-led business / investment cases for sustainability projects, particularly on decarbonisation, circular economy and lifecycle analysis
  • Experienced in developing, measuring, tracking, benchmarking and reporting of corporate sustainability performance (economic, environmental and social) in line with best practice
  • Experienced in developing relationships with and managing external consultants and partners
  • Effective communicator, able to inspire and motivate stakeholders to take greater levels of accountability and adopt more sustainable practices, tailored for different audiences
  • Highly organised self-starter with a track record of developing and managing concurrent delivery of multiple projects/ initiatives
  • Systems thinker, that drives creative and practical, implementable solutions to problems
  • Collaborative and cooperative team player, equally willing and able to drive own projects whilst working with other team members as needed
  • Excellent people manager
