Performance Analysis Engineer

Job description

Purpose of the Role:

  • To provide factory-based performance analysis support before, during & after track events
  • To plan, execute & report on vehicle performance tests in the Driver In the Loop (DIL) Simulator
  • To exploit car performance via setup optimisation and development of new concepts
  • To support Trackside and Design functions with relevant and rigorous insight from offline simulation and data analysis of Track and Simulator tests
  • To support events within the Mission Control team, assessing vehicle performance in real time

Role Dimensions:

  • This role sits in the Performance Analysis Group within Vehicle Performance
  • The role is principally concerned with vehicle performance event support and Simulator operations
  • The role reports directly to the Head of Performance Analysis within Vehicle Performance

Principal Accountabilities:

Identifying opportunities to improve car performance through:

  • Producing insightful, high-quality analysis in challenging timeframes
  • Planning and running Simulator test programmes with Race and Test drivers
  • Translating driver feedback into actionable objectives for car development
  • Correlating modelled and on-track behaviour relating to Aerodynamics, Tyres and Suspension

Job requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Master’s degree, PhD or equivalent within an engineering discipline
  • Proven experience in a vehicle performance-focused role in high-level Motorsport
  • Previous exposure to track or simulator environment
  • Strong analytical skills underpinned by a data-driven approach
  • First class written and oral communication skills, delivering complex information in a style appropriate to the audience
  • Broad awareness of suspension systems & global performance sensitivities in an F1 setting
  • Experienced user of:
  • MATLAB (required)
  • Vehicle Dynamics simulation tools (required)
  • ATLAS or similar analysis tools (required)
  • Version control (preferred)
  • Python (preferred)
