Senior Specialist, Circular Economy

Purpose of role

To deliver the circular economy workstream across all Racing series in collaboration within the team and our wider partners

Key accountabilities

  • Project managing and providing circular economy specialist input to the F1 circular car project, ensuring that the project is delivering tangible desired outcomes, is on-track and involves the right partners, including regular reporting and communication of progress
  • Conducting research, establishing baseline data and supporting the team to identify and use appropriate tools to assess the circular economy opportunities for McLaren Racing and make practical recommendations for improvement
  • Supporting the development of compelling, data-led and practical business cases for investment in circular economy solutions
  • Educating the McLaren Racing team on the concept of circular economy and how this can be practically applied in their roles and decision-making
  • Working with colleagues, suppliers, academics, partners and others, as appropriate, to find and implement circular solutions to McLaren Racing’s key materials, operational and event waste streams
  • Supporting the leadership team to influence industry (FIA) regulations and the cost-cap to enable investment in and adoption of circular solutions without negatively impacting competitiveness or car performance
  • Reports to the Lead, Sustainability Management Systems, Reporting & Insights
  • Oversees any McLaren Racing sponsored research(ers) into circular economy solutions

Job requirements

Desired experience, skills & behaviours

  • Experience of relevant real-life project delivery in collaboration with suppliers and partners. For example, circular car design and construction, net-zero materials waste, closed-loop production, primary materials reduction/ secondary materials use, bio-based materials, material use lifetime extension, materials separation and recycling.
  • Able to clearly and succinctly explain circular economy principles and real-world applications within the context of McLaren Racing’s activities
  • Strong understanding of relevant circular economy-related political, policy, legislative and motorsports industry and Racing Series regulations trends and their implications for strategic decision making at McLaren Racing
  • Experience of sourcing and using appropriate data, management and assessment tools, including lifecycle analysis to achieve positive change
  • Well-networked within the research and innovation community for circular economy solutions
  • Effective communicator, with an ability to educate and influence others to adopt circular solutions in a compelling and simple way
  • Strong relationship building skills, working collaboratively across partners, teams and networks
  • Highly organised, able to deliver multiple concurrent projects/ initiatives
  • Collaborative and cooperative team player, equally willing and able to work on own projects whilst supporting other team members as needed
