Purpose of the Role:

To improve on track performance by contributing to car/driver development, car setup optimisation, race weekend execution and driver-in-the-loop simulator operation/utilization.


Principal Responsibilities

  • Preparing pre & post event documentation.
  • Supporting trackside race engineers during race events (remotely, from our base at Bicester Heritage) with respect to car setup, run planning, legality, performance analysis etc.
  • Running simulator sessions for car/driver development, race preparation, and simulator development.
  • Running a car in test sessions to a pre-defined schedule, managing the driver, directing the mechanics and tyre technicians.
  • Contributing to improving overall car and driver performance development.
  • Contribution to developing engineering processes and procedures.

Role Dimensions

  • The Race Engineering group sits alongside the Vehicle Performance and Strategy/Sporting groups within the Technical department.
  • The role will involve significant collaboration with other groups within the team.
  • Working during race weekends is required.
  • Travel to race and test events is required on an ad-hoc basis.
  • Unsocial and extended hours will be involved.

Job requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Outstanding academic background with degree in Engineering, Physics or a related discipline.
  • Significant knowledge and understanding of racing car vehicle dynamics.
  • Experience working with race cars/simulators and drivers in testing or competition.
  • Five years’ experience in professional motorsport.
  • Experience in the use of commercial data analysis programs; ATLAS, WinTAX etc.

Desirable

  • Experience in professional motorsport at the highest levels (F1, FE, WEC)
  • Experience in MATLAB/Python programming.
  • Experience with hybrid or electric drivetrains.

NEOM McLaren Electric Racing is based at the Bicester Heritage site on the edge of Bicester.
