Job description

Purpose of the Role:

  • To develop vehicle performance by opportunities through simulation studies, simulator tests and trackside analysis
  • To support the design process through simulation studies, simulator tests and trackside analysis
  • To use and develop a world class simulation toolchain and analysis techniques


Role Dimensions:

  • This role sits in the Vehicle Dynamics Group within Vehicle Performance
  • The role is principally concerned with vehicle performance development through design & setup optimisation, event support & simulation toolchain improvement
  • The role reports directly to the Head of Vehicle Dynamics within Vehicle Performance


Principal Accountabilities:

Identifying opportunities to improve car performance through:

  • To identify actionable performance development opportunities
  • To propose, execute and report on simulation studies & simulator tests
  • To contribute to pre-event simulation setup studies
  • To support trackside operations from Mission Control
  • To produce insightful, high-quality analysis in challenging timeframes
  • To optimise inboard and outboard suspension & steering system characteristics
  • To innovate, proposing and developing new ideas & concepts
  • To model and simulate dynamic systems
  • To develop high quality simulation tools and support their use
  • To generate clear and well-documented code
  • To provide technical assistance to the broader team
  • To correlate modelled and on-track aerodynamic, tyre, suspension & balance response

Job requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Master’s degree, PhD or equivalent in Engineering, Physics or Applied Mathematics (or similar)
  • Proven experience in a vehicle performance-focused role in high-level Motorsport
  • Broad awareness of suspension systems & global performance sensitivities in an F1 setting
  • Strong skills in data analysis, applied mathematics and dynamic systems
  • Objective, data-driven approach
  • First class written and oral communication skills, delivering complex information in a style appropriate to the audience
  • Previous exposure to track or simulator environment (preferred)
  • Experienced user of:
  • MATLAB (required)
  • Vehicle Dynamics simulation tools (required)
  • ATLAS or similar analysis tools (required)
  • Version control (preferred)
  • Python (preferred)
