McLaren Racing’s entry in Extreme E and Formula E aims to accelerate McLaren Racing’s sustainability journey and reach a new, more diverse global audience and workforce. Based on the unique Bicester Heritage site, the Extreme E and Formula E teams combined are known as NEOM McLaren Electric Racing.


Purpose of the Role:

We're offering a unique opportunity for a Purchaser to play a pivotal role in our journey, directly influencing our organization's performance. This position reports to the Head of Finance and is crucial for someone ready to make a significant impact alongside some of the best talents in electric racing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Refine the NEOM McLaren supplier portfolio, driving our sourcing strategy to innovate and meet future demands.
  • Collaborate with the Programme Planner, ensuring part availability for a competitive edge on the track.
  • Oversee the supply chain from design to track by optimising orders, deliveries, and supplier performance.
  • Manage the negotiations and SLA’s with our landlord relating to lease and site services
  • Build strong relationships and innovative solutions with suppliers and stakeholders, aligned with the dynamics of motorsport.
  • Source components within budget and timelines, balancing cost, quality, and efficiency in procurement.
  • Ensure supply chain compliance, deepen understanding of company governance, and prioritize sustainability in purchasing to uphold eco-friendly racing practices.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively, ensuring all stakeholders stay informed and aligned and any conflicts resolved.
  • Maintain quality and manage costs, updating procurement processes and systems for peak efficiency.
  • Optimise and maintain procurement efficiency by updating processes and systems, ensuring they align with business needs for maximum effectiveness and cost control.

Knowledge, Skills and Experiences

  • Bridge functional gaps, ensuring purchasing decisions propel the entire team forward and facilitate open communication and collaboration to achieve objectives.
  • Harness feedback to refine processes, reduce costs, and boost supplier performance while adapting strategies to meet the ever-changing needs of the industry.
  • Accurately anticipating the needs for components, positioning us to lead in the fast-paced world of electric racing.
  • Understand the implications of the Formula E cost cap for strategic planning, and the unique pressures and requirements of the motorsport industry.
  • Utilising essential software and tools, like SAP/MRP systems and Excel, to enhance our operational efficiency and keep us racing ahead.
  • Possess a basic understanding of engineering drawings and vehicle assemblies to support.

Personal Attributes:

  • A curious and tenacious individual, eager to thrive in a fast-paced, innovative environment, demonstrating a willingness to contribute beyond traditional role boundaries.
  • Ideally CIPS qualified with experience in a fast-paced engineering, prototype manufacturing, or motorsport environment, embodying a proactive, professional approach to work.
  • Exceptional influencing and negotiating skills.
  • Flexibility and adaptability, ready to support team needs with minimal supervision, meeting tight deadlines in a dynamic setting.

NEOM McLaren Electric Racing is based at the Bicester Heritage site on the edge of Bicester. The site is 1 mile from Bicester North Train Station with regular trains from London and Birmingham.
