Aero Process and Optimisation Engineer

  • On-site
    • Woking, England, United Kingdom
  • F1 - Technical

Job description

At McLaren Racing, we believe only by chasing performance in everything we do can we give ourselves the best chance of success.  Performance on track and in the factory. Performance for our people, our business and our partners.  It’s about more than winning.  It’s about hitting the highest standards, and then raising the bar again.

Purpose of the Role

At McLaren Racing, every millisecond matters. As an Aero Process & Optimisation Engineer, you'll play a key role in improving the way aerodynamic performance is delivered to the race car. Working across the aerodynamic development cycle, you'll identify inefficiencies, optimise workflows, and implement data-driven improvements that increase speed, reliability and collaboration across the organisation.

You'll work closely with teams across Aero Development, CFD, Design, Manufacturing and Wind Tunnel Operations to ensure our processes are as competitive as the car we put on track.

What You'll Do

  • Analyse workflows, performance data and operational processes to identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies and opportunities for improvement.

  • Deliver process optimisation initiatives from initial analysis through to implementation, monitoring and continuous refinement.

  • Support improvements across the aerodynamic development cycle, including model design, manufacture, build, wind tunnel testing and trackside interfaces.

  • Develop data-driven insights using tools such as Excel, Power BI and other reporting solutions to measure the impact of change.

  • Help introduce automation opportunities through scripting, workflow tools and low-code platforms to improve efficiency and reduce manual effort.

  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to enhance ways of working, improve throughput and increase process reliability.

  • Support the adoption of new tools, processes and working practices through stakeholder engagement and training where required.

Job requirements

What You'll Bring

  • Experience in process engineering, continuous improvement, operational excellence or a similar environment.

  • Knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, Agile methodologies or other structured problem-solving approaches.

  • A degree in Mechanical, Aerospace or Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to use data to identify trends, solve problems and drive measurable improvements.

  • Experience working with Microsoft tools including Excel, Power Platform, SharePoint and reporting tools such as Power BI.

  • Working knowledge of Python, SQL databases and automation tools, with an understanding of APIs and system integrations.

  • An appreciation of the aerodynamic development lifecycle or wider engineering and manufacturing processes within a high-performance environment.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across multiple teams.

  • Project management experience and familiarity with engineering systems, CAD tools or PLM platforms would be advantageous.

Personal Attributes

  • A naturally curious problem solver who enjoys challenging existing ways of working.

  • Collaborative and team-focused, building strong relationships across functions.

  • Proactive, self-motivated and able to take ownership of delivering results.

  • Detail-oriented, with strong organisational and prioritisation skills.

  • Adaptable communicator who can engage effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, high-performance environment where priorities can change quickly.

  • Demonstrates sound judgement, integrity and a commitment to continuous improvement.
