Purpose of the Role:

The Workday Functional Lead will be responsible for overseeing the configuration, implementation, and maintenance of Workday modules, including HCM, Recruiting, Third Party Payroll, Compensation, Benefits, Performance, and Absence Management. This role requires a deep understanding of Workday's capabilities and the ability to translate business requirements into effective system solutions.

Role dimensions

You will report into the Lead, Programme Manager and be part of McLaren Racing’s wider People team, providing you with the opportunity to collaborate and deliver on the implementation and rollout of Workday to McLaren Racing, as well as providing ongoing maintenance and support into BAU.

While this role supports hybrid working, it requires you to be at McLaren Technology Centre (Woking, UK) at least three days per week. Days worked out of the McLaren Technology Centre will need to be flexed accordingly to suit the demands of the role and your manager.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Support the implementation, configuration, and testing of new Workday functionality and enhancements.

  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to identify system requirements, provide recommendations, and deliver scalable solutions to meet future business needs.

  • Manage ongoing technical roadmap discussions on architecture and features of current Workday modules.

  • Gather, understand, and analyse business requirements to ensure optimal system configuration.

  • Collaborate with Finance, People Directors and relevant People Team stakeholders to ensure that business KPIs and SLAs are being met and can be reported regularly as required.

  • Provide subject matter expertise on key business process decisions.

  • Ensure data integrity and develop audit strategies to maintain system accuracy.

  • Perform root cause analysis for system issues and escalate as necessary.

  • Train new users and provide ongoing support for Workday system users.

  • Stay updated on Workday releases and ensure updates to the system are tested and applied when required

  • Support with defining  the product roadmap for both the technical set up and integration of Workday, focusing on continuous improvement and system enhancements.

  • Collaboration with the wider IT team, to analyse and document the broader human resources technology architecture, processes and integrations to ensure an optimised and efficient user experience.

  • Own the day-to-day relationship with the AMS provider.

  • Be the point of contact for HR, IT and Finance in relation to Workday issues, optimisation ideas or new requirements.

  • Support in the communication and training of key cyclical processes such as, compensation reviews and performance reviews.

  • Support the team more broadly with data and reporting as and when required plus any other ad-hoc Workday needs.

Job requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • 5+ years of HRIS or IT systems management experience, with at least 3 years of experience with Workday modules.

  • Product Owner experience in Workday or other HRIS systems.

  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to self-organise workload and manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

  • Problem-solving mindset

  • Strong work ethic and team ethos to get the job done.
